Punjab Police Bust ISI-Backed BKI Terror Module, Foil Independence Day Plot

In a critical intelligence-led strike, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit from Jalandhar, collaborating with SBS Nagar Police, has dismantled a Pakistan ISI-supported Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module. Five operatives—including three juveniles—have been arrested from Tonk and Jaipur districts in Rajasthan, thwarting planned attacks ahead of Independence Day.

DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that the module had targeted a liquor store in SBS Nagar and carried out a grenade attack there on August 7. The arrested individuals were receiving instructions from foreign-based handlers—Zeeshan Akhtar, Mannu Agwan, and Gopi Nawanshehria—acting under the guidance of Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh (alias Rinda).

Authorities seized an 86P hand grenade, a .30-bore pistol, two live cartridges, and two spent shells during the operation. An FIR has been registered at the City Nawanshahr Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act. Investigations are underway to unravel both the backward and forward links of this terror network.
