Trump and Putin Hold High-Stakes Summit in Alaska Over Ukraine War

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Alaska for a critical summit aimed at brokering a ceasefire in Ukraine’s 3.5-year war.

Trump, calling the talks “high stakes,” said he’s not negotiating for Ukraine but pushing to get all sides to the table. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, not invited to the summit, warned against any deal that concedes territory to Russia.

Putin, arriving with a delegation of business leaders, hinted at willingness to freeze the conflict in exchange for NATO guarantees and sanctions relief. Trump warned of “severe economic consequences” if the talks fail.

The meeting could open the door to a three-way peace summit including Ukraine, and even a new nuclear arms deal, but skepticism remains high in Kyiv and across Europe.

“We’re not giving anything to anyone,” said one Kyiv resident, reflecting growing concern over a potential compromise.
