High voltage drama gripped the Lok Sabha Tuesday afternoon as Opposition MPs stormed the well of the House, shouting slogans and eventually tearing and throwing copies of the Constitution in protest, leading to one of the most tense and chaotic sessions in recent parliamentary history.

The protest stemmed from the introduction of a constitutional amendment bill that opposition leaders claimed would erode federal structure and concentrate power at the Centre. What began as shouting and desk-thumping quickly escalated, with members ripping up official documents and hurling Constitution booklets into the air — a scene that drew gasps from the ruling benches.

Security personnel were seen stepping in to separate members from opposing parties as Speaker Om Birla repeatedly called for order. The proceedings were suspended twice before the House was adjourned for the day.

“This is not protest — this is vandalism inside Parliament,” said Union Minister Rajnath Singh, while accusing the opposition of “mocking the very document they swore to uphold.”

Meanwhile, opposition parties held a press conference outside Parliament, stating the act was not intended to insult the Constitution but to highlight the government’s alleged disregard for democratic norms.
