Before she was known as the director of Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, filmmaker Ashima Chibber was just another aspiring storyteller in the crowded world of Bollywood. But even back then, she had moments that would later become unforgettable stories — like the time she joked about splitting a dinner bill with Shah Rukh Khan.
Speaking at a screenwriting event, Chibber shared what she calls her “most memorable moment” from her assistant director days. During the Don success bash, she found herself seated at a table with top-tier names — including SRK. When the bill arrived, she casually turned to Khan and said, “So, should we split this?”
To her relief, SRK didn’t take offense. He laughed and playfully replied: “Why not? You can handle the tip.”
Chibber said the moment broke the ice and left a lasting impression on her — not just because of the joke, but because it showed how approachable even the biggest stars can be.
