Jerry Adler, revered for his rich character work on screen, passed away on August 23, 2025, at the age of 96. Born February 4, 1929 in New York City, Adler’s on‑screen acting career remarkably began at age 62 with a role on Brooklyn Bridge in 1991. He soon made a memorable impact with a major film appearance in Woody Allen’s Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993). His breakthrough came as Herman “Hesh” Rabkin in The Sopranos (1999–2007), delivering a nuanced and grounded portrayal in one of television’s most iconic dramas.

From 2011 to 2016, Adler embodied Howard Lyman in The Good Wife, a role so compelling that it extended into its spin‑off The Good Fight. His final television appearance came in the 2019 revival of Mad About You. Adler’s legacy endures through the warmth, humor, and depth he brought to every character. He is survived by his wife, Joan Laxman.
