Kaidon Salter – In a move that emphasizes experience over hype, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has selected Kaidon Salter, a seasoned Liberty transfer, to start at quarterback in Friday’s season opener against Georgia Tech.
The announcement ends speculation around the quarterback battle between Salter and Julian Lewis, a five-star freshman whose arrival brought national attention to Boulder. Though Lewis impressed in camp with his arm strength and poise, Sanders ultimately sided with Salter’s maturity and game-readiness.
“Kaidon gives us the best chance to win right now,” Sanders said. “Julian’s day is coming, but we’re starting with a guy who’s been in the fire.”
Salter brings versatility, leadership, and over 20 career collegiate starts to the Buffaloes. His experience running tempo offenses and improvising under pressure could be crucial against Georgia Tech’s aggressive defense.
Meanwhile, Lewis’s development will remain a storyline throughout the season. Coaches have indicated he may see limited action or packages designed for him as the year progresses.
This decision is part of a broader shift under Sanders, who’s rebuilt the Colorado roster with experienced transfers while nurturing young talent for future seasons. All eyes will be on Folsom Field this Friday when Salter takes his first official snap in black and gold.
