CMAT Music Review: CMAT’s Euro-Country Is Smart, Energetic, Cheeky Pop

CMAT

CMAT singer-songwriter CMAT (Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson) delivers her most compelling work yet with Euro-Country, her third studio album. Sharp, lively, and irreverently clever, the album blends catchy indie-pop and alt-country rhythms with deeply personal and political insights—creating a vibrant, smart, and emotional package.

The album opens with the title track, sung in Irish over swelling synths, and explores Ireland’s cultural and economic transformations. Themes of grief, identity, and capitalism run through standout numbers such as “Lord, Let That Tesla Crash”, “Take a Sexy Picture of Me”—which sparked a TikTok dance craze—and the satirical “Jamie Oliver’s Petrol Station”, taking a humorous swipe at commercial culture.

With its blend of emotional depth, pointed commentary, and playful energy, Euro-Country asserts CMAT’s distinctive voice in today’s pop landscape.
