Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has once again secured victory in the national elections, retaining power at the remarkable age of 92. The announcement sparked both celebration and unrest, as gunfire was reported in several opposition areas shortly after results were declared.

Biya, who first took office in 1982, is now among the world’s longest-serving leaders. His ruling party praised the result as a “mandate for continuity,” while the opposition condemned it as a “stolen election.”

Tensions remain high across parts of western Cameroon, where security forces reportedly clashed with protestors. Analysts warn that Biya’s re-election could further deepen political divisions, even as his government promises reforms and stability.
