Cameroon’s long-serving President Paul Biya, aged 92, has been re-elected for another term, extending his more than four-decade rule. However, the election has been marred by reports of gunfire and unrest in opposition strongholds, raising concerns about the credibility of the results.

According to the national election body, Biya secured a commanding victory, though opposition parties allege widespread irregularities and intimidation of voters. Several observers also reported violence in the Anglophone regions, where separatist tensions remain high.

Despite controversy, Biya’s supporters celebrated in the capital, calling him a symbol of stability. Meanwhile, international bodies have urged calm and called for transparent verification of the election process to ensure peace in the country.
