The IMD has placed Chennai and 11 districts of Tamil Nadu under a yellow alert as rains intensified across the region. The ongoing monsoon activity is expected to bring short, heavy bouts of rainfall throughout the day, raising concerns of traffic disruptions and waterlogging.
Districts such as Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, and Pudukkottai are likely to receive moderate to heavy rain. Authorities have advised the public to stay indoors during intense spells and avoid unnecessary travel.
Fishermen have also been warned about rough sea conditions and strong winds along the Tamil Nadu coastline.
