The Alaska State Fair 2025 is officially underway, welcoming excited crowds to the fairgrounds in Palmer with classic fun, local flavors, and a brand-new Da Vinci exhibition that’s drawing rave reviews.
The fair opened its gates on Friday, August 16, and marks the symbolic end of summer in the Last Frontier. With schools soon back in session and cooler days ahead, fairgoers are soaking up every last bit of Alaskan sunshine.
“It’s the culmination of an Alaskan summer,” said Jeff Curtis, CEO of the Alaska State Fair. “It just feels right—rides, food, friends, and now something to learn from too.”
🖼️ Da Vinci Exhibit Steals the Spotlight
New to the fair this year is a museum-grade Da Vinci exhibit, included with general admission. The interactive exhibit features working models, sketches, and educational displays highlighting the genius of Leonardo da Vinci—an unexpected but welcome addition that blends entertainment with education.
“This is something you’d expect to see in a major city museum,” Curtis said. “It’s an incredible opportunity for Alaskans to experience something world-class right here in Palmer.”
🍤 Food Vendors Bring Bold Flavors
With nearly 70 food vendors, the fair is offering more culinary variety than ever before. From fresh Alaskan oysters and seafood platters to deep-fried peaches stuffed with ice cream, there’s something for every craving.
“You’ve got your classic burgers and corn dogs, but also things like oysters and even some crazy fried desserts,” Curtis added.
🎢 Rides, Games, and Family Fun
As always, the midway is packed with thrill rides, carnival games, livestock shows, and live performances. Local artisans and farmers are also showcasing their goods in exhibition halls and outdoor booths, making it a true celebration of Alaskan culture and creativity.
🚧 Traffic Alert for Fairgoers
Travelers heading to the fairgrounds should plan ahead. The Glenn Highway near the Knik River Bridge is under construction, with reduced speed limits and shoulder work still in progress. The new traffic lights installed between the Glenn-Parks interchange and the fairgrounds will remain inactive until the fair concludes.
