Filmmaker Ashima Chibber, known for directing Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway and Mere Dad Ki Maruti, recently shared a humorous and unforgettable memory involving Shah Rukh Khan from her early days in the industry.
During a panel discussion at the Mumbai Film Writers Forum, Chibber opened up about her time as an assistant director on the 2006 film Don, directed by Farhan Akhtar. Recalling the post-release celebration of the film’s success, she said:
“It was an amazing party. I was very junior back then — just happy to be invited. When the bill arrived at our table, I jokingly looked at SRK and said, ‘Shall we split this?’”
To her surprise, SRK burst into laughter and responded with his trademark charm: “Sure, how about you take care of the tip?”
The story drew laughter from the audience, offering a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of Bollywood’s biggest star being effortlessly down-to-earth and playful. Chibber added, “It was a reminder that even the biggest stars are human, and that moment stayed with me.”
