The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Chennai and 11 districts across Tamil Nadu, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall today. The northeast monsoon continues to stay active over coastal regions, bringing widespread showers to the state.
As per the latest advisory, districts including Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Pudukkottai are expected to witness intense spells of rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts, avoid waterlogged routes, and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. The IMD also warned fishermen to stay away from rough sea conditions along the Tamil Nadu coast.
