derson’s Future in Doubt as Guardiola Stands Firm: “If They Want to Leave, Knock on My Door”

Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is reportedly weighing up his future at the club, sparking uncertainty just days before the new Premier League season kicks into high gear. Despite the speculation, Pep Guardiola has made his stance crystal clear: Ederson remains “our player”—unless the Brazilian makes it known that he wants to leave.

Now 31, Ederson has been a cornerstone of City’s golden era, but the noise around his possible departure is growing louder. While Galatasaray have emerged as a surprise suitor, no formal offers have been made and City are not actively looking to sell.

“If Ederson wants to leave, he hasn’t said so,” Guardiola told reporters ahead of Saturday’s Premier League opener against Wolves. “All the players here are our players. If they want to go, they know where my office is.”

Ederson had previously dismissed transfer rumors during the Club World Cup in June, calling them “99% fake news.” But since then, sources close to the player say he is seriously considering a new challenge abroad, possibly as part of the late-summer window shuffle.

City Prepared Behind the Scenes

While Guardiola insists Ederson remains part of his plans, City appear to be preparing for all outcomes. The club recently completed the £27 million signing of James Trafford from Burnley, adding to a goalkeeping roster that already includes Stefan Ortega.

Should Ederson formally request an exit, City may turn their attention to Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, who could be available after PSG’s signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille. The 26-year-old Italy international may be deemed surplus to requirements in Paris, opening a potential door for a dramatic move to the Premier League.

Savinho Also in the Spotlight

Meanwhile, Brazilian winger Savinho is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The 21-year-old, currently sidelined with an injury, has been on Spurs’ radar, though no official move has been made. Guardiola was clear about the process: “Whether it’s Tottenham or any other club, a player who wants to move should come to the club and say so. The rest is between the player and the board.”

Despite his absence from the squad to face Wolves, Guardiola hopes Savinho will stay long-term, praising his potential but admitting he needs refinement in the final third.

The Message Is Clear

Guardiola’s message is as firm as ever: Manchester City won’t stand in the way of players who wish to leave, but the initiative must come from them.

“At the end, the desire of the players is above everything. But they also need to reach an agreement with the club,” said Guardiola. “If not, they stay. We paid money for them, and they are our players.”

With just weeks left in the transfer window, the ball is now in Ederson’s court. Will he knock on Guardiola’s door—or stay to fight for his place in a crowded City goalkeeping lineup?
