ESPN – Wolff Admits Missing Rivalry With Red Bull’s Christian Horner

ESPN

ESPN- Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has admitted that he misses his long-standing rival, Red Bull boss Christian Horner, describing him as a “great enemy” whose presence sharpened Formula 1’s competitive edge.

Wolff and Horner have been central figures in one of F1’s fiercest modern rivalries, particularly during the 2021 season when Mercedes and Red Bull clashed in a dramatic title battle. Their verbal sparring, pointed press conference remarks, and relentless pursuit of supremacy added fuel to the sport’s narrative.

Speaking ahead of the latest Grand Prix weekend, Wolff noted that the absence of Horner in recent weeks had left the paddock atmosphere “less fiery” and admitted that the rivalry pushed both leaders to bring out their best. “We fought hard, and it was personal at times, but that competition elevated the sport. I do miss that kind of battle,” he said.

While Mercedes and Red Bull continue to jostle on track, Wolff’s words reflect how even the fiercest rivalries in Formula 1 can foster mutual respect.
