Chennai woke up to an overcast sky today as the IMD placed the city and 11 Tamil Nadu districts under a yellow alert due to a strengthening weather system over the Bay of Bengal. The active monsoon winds are likely to trigger moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day.
The districts likely to be affected include Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, and Pudukkottai. Officials have instructed disaster response teams to be on standby, particularly in low-lying regions prone to flooding.
Commuters are urged to plan their travel accordingly as several key roads may experience slow-moving traffic due to waterlogging.
