The incident happened around 7 pm during the evening rush hour, soon after a flash protest by employees of Central Railway led to a halt in local train services, causing overcrowding and confusion.
Initial investigations indicate that the victims alighted from their train and walked along the tracks to reach a platform while services were suspended. At that time, a Kalyan-bound local train struck them.
