nasa Earth Gains a Second Moon Until 2083, NASA Confirms

NASA has confirmed that Earth will temporarily have a second moon — a small, natural satellite expected to remain in orbit until 2083. The object, designated 2025 PN7, is much smaller than our familiar Moon and is thought to be a captured asteroid pulled into Earth’s gravitational field.

Scientists emphasize that 2025 PN7 poses no threat to Earth and offers a unique opportunity to study near-Earth objects in close proximity. While it is too small to be seen with the naked eye, astronomers plan to track its orbit using telescopes and radar systems, providing valuable data on its movement and composition.

NASA officials say that this mini-moon could also help refine techniques for observing and potentially redirecting other near-Earth objects in the future, making it a rare natural laboratory for planetary science.
