The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has selected Deepak Gupta for the role of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Ltd, the Maharatna oil and gas public‐sector enterprise.
Currently serving as Director (Projects) at GAIL, Gupta was picked after a comprehensive interview process involving 12 candidates, nine of whom were internal to GAIL.
With a mechanical engineering background from what is now the Delhi Technological University (DTU) and a credential as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the USA, he brings over 35 years of experience in the oil & gas sector.
His appointment is subject to final approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The incumbent CMD, Sandeep Kumar Gupta, is expected to retire on February 28, 2026.
