Following his shooting during an attempted escape, Vipin Bhati, the prime accused in the brutal dowry murder of his wife Nikki, made a chilling statement from his hospital bed. “She died on her own,” he told ANI reporters, denying involvement in what police believe was a planned attack.

The incident took place in Greater Noida, where 28-year-old Nikki was reportedly set ablaze in her marital home. Her father alleged that her in-laws had been harassing her for dowry and that Nikki had returned to her husband only days before her death in an attempt to salvage the marriage.

Vipin, who had been arrested in connection with the case, was taken by police to recover key evidence believed to have been used in the crime. During the recovery operation, he allegedly tried to flee and was shot in the leg by police after attempting to seize an officer’s weapon.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, Vipin remains unrepentant, casting doubt on the charges against him. His statement has further angered Nikki’s family, who are demanding capital punishment. The case has once again put the spotlight on India’s continuing battle against dowry-related violence and the lack of timely justice for victims.
